We Met at O, Miami: Art of Queer Bodies

From the Versace Mansion to Gramps to Dear Eleanor, from Lips to Palace to Twist, iconic queer spaces new and old have symbolized fun, freedom and community for queer people in South Florida.

LGBTQIA+ Miamians are invited to honor the strength and vulnerability of queer spaces and queer bodies during this unique experience presented by We Met in Miami, O, Miami and Easy Peasy Tattoo.

Connect with new friends or romantic connections through shared love and nostalgia of Miami’s queer places, capturing their magic in the form of ZipOdes: five-line poems where the number of words in each line corresponds to a zip code.

Build community through paired icebreakers and guided small-group conversations, together exploring the nuances of queer experience in this moment: the joy and fear, the safety and insecurity, the connection and isolation.

Commemorate the experience with a queer expression of bodily autonomy: get a tattoo! Even better, get a matching tattoo with a new friend.

Easy Peasy artists have created flash tattoo designs inspired by LGBTQIA+ Miami, as well as poetry on themes of queerness, love, friendship and community. (Temporary tattoos will also be available.)

Flash tattoos are priced from $100 to $200, depending on size and complexity, and availability is limited. See designs below.

At We Met in Miami events, we wear wristbands that show others who we are and what we’re looking for: green for those seeking love, blue for friendship and rainbow for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. (Yes, you can wear more than one!) And if you meet someone special, we’ll help you reconnect after the event.

Parking is extremely limited at Easy Peasy. Rideshare is recommended.

Here’s what to expect:

7 p.m. Arrival. Check in, get your wristbands, make your name tags, and start mingling. Also: Flash tattoo appointments begin and will continue throughout the event.

7:45 p.m. Opening and icebreaker. We’ll begin with some opening introductions, then break the ice in paired conversations about our favorite queer spaces.

8:10 p.m. Poetry writing exercise. In small groups, we’ll write collaborative ZipOdes honoring queer spaces, and then we’ll share.

9 p.m. Small-group conversations. We’ll shuffle groups and dive into a guided conversation on queer bodies, bodily autonomy and body art.

9:30 p.m. Closing icebreaker. With consent, we’ll write a poem on a new friend using temporary tattoos and body paint.

9:45 p.m. Group photo. Let’s capture the moment.

10 p.m. After party. The event wraps up, but attendees are welcome to continue the conversation during an after party at Tacos vs. Burritos Cantina.
