The Mission : “We Got Your 6” is a veteran-centered safe zone and civic action forum designed to connect local veterans with real-time resources, leadership access, and therapeutic support. In the military, "We Got Your Six" means “we’ve got your back.” It is rooted in clock-based positioning where six o’clock represents your blind spot—signifying that someone is watching over you so you are never alone.
Transitioning from active duty to civilian life presents complex challenges, from economic instability to isolation and mental health struggles. The purpose of this forum is to create a structured, respectful, and solution-oriented space where veterans can share the real challenges they face during their transition, and civic leaders can respond with clarity, accountability, and actionable next steps.
What to Expect: This is not a traditional gathering; it is a community intervention experience. We are moving from storytelling to solutions by bridging lived experience with leadership action and community collaboration.
Arrival & Connection (5:30 PM): Walk into a welcoming environment with light refreshments and immediate access to local wellness and resource partners.
Civic Leadership Lightning Talks: Brief remarks from local civic leaders framing the importance of veteran support, identifying gaps, and committing to listening.
Veteran Spotlight Panel: Moderated by Cornelia Nicholson, who is the Morning Anchor for KBAK and KBFX, where she helps Central California start the day with stories that inform, inspire, and bring people together. During this panel, local veterans will share their real-life experiences navigating transition, mental health, and economic barriers through a guided and respectful conversation.
Civic Response & Collaborative Discussion: Civic leaders will respond directly to the veteran stories shared, engaging in a solution-focused dialogue and brainstorming how Kern County can better support veteran reintegration.
Stand With Us
We want our community to wrap a blanket of love around our veterans. Whether you are a veteran seeking connection, a community member wanting to listen, or an organization ready to provide resources, we need you in the room.
