About this Event

A “swap meet” is a practice where community members get together to exchange or barter things they no longer need for things they want or need. It can be a powerful mutual aid strategy where community members get things they need for free, saving them money and helping the planet.

Recently, there have been calls for boycotts of major retail chains that may have left many of us confused about what to do. And we are also watching the rollback of many social programs and opportunities that are affecting people’s pockets. Mutual aid strategies remind us that there are tools we already possess to sustain ourselves and each other. Also, it’s fun to trade & get FREE SH*T!

Even if you don’t care about a boycott or don’t consider yourself “political”, the truth is we have to stop buying so much stuff. .Excessive consumption is not just “killing the planet”, it’s literally killing us.Overconsumption, especially of fast fashion and cheap foreign made products is driving climate change and having a negative impact on our quality of life.

Community is the way, y’all! We can’t fix everythang but we can start where we are and with what we have. We can bring back the practices of our grandmothers that have sustained us. Bring GENTLY USED clothes & FUNCTIONING appliances, toys, shoes, books, home decor, artwork, linen, pet care and other things in good condition. Bring some things and take some things.

Lets gather for a day of trading, snacks, music and food giveaways by The Bronx Collab. There will also an hour long Town Hall to help inform us on WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING.

And if that isn't dope enough The Bronx Collab will join Black Feminist Project and will be giving out 500 bags of food to community members on a first come, first serve basis.
