About this Event
About the Film
WE ARE NOT INVISIBLE is a documentary about survival — and the care that makes it possible.
Through the voices of doulas, mothers, and medical professionals, the film examines what happens when people speak up during pregnancy and birth — and what happens when they are not believed, not seen, not heard, or not taken seriously.
Following one first-time mother and her doula through pregnancy and birth, alongside stories of near-death and medical insight, the film reveals the often unseen labor that surrounds birth and sustains life. This work is essential. It is present. And too often, it goes unrecognized.
This is a film about care that holds.
About voices that insist.
And about the cost of survival when that care is dismissed.
What to Expect
The screening will be followed by a moderated conversation with members of the filmmaking team and community doulas.
Content note: This film includes discussions of maternal and infant mortality, medical trauma, and near-death experiences.
Why This Screening Matters
Doulas play a critical role in supporting pregnant people and improving birth outcomes, yet their labor is frequently misunderstood, undervalued, and excluded from systems of care.
This screening is an opportunity to witness the work that makes survival possible — and to consider what it means to recognize it.
