BOOKING REQUIREDWays of Making programs offer an opportunity for educators to explore the ideas and creative processes of artists and designers in current exhibitions and to learn practical skills through an artist-led workshop.
In April, take a deep dive into the Triennial and find new ways to incorporate contemporary art into your teaching and learning.
This program begins with an NGV Educator-led tour and discussion of works in the Triennial, exploring how contemporary artists use different materials and techniques to communicate ideas. Then, join Triennial artist Prudence Flint in the Gallery as she shares insights into her creative practice and her body of work, Hunting and fishing, 2023, which reflects the artist’s ongoing interest in traditions of figurative painting and the representation of women throughout art history.
Following the Gallery session, the artist will lead a 2.5– hour life drawing workshop with two models in the NGV studios. Practice drawing skills and techniques by applying the art elements and principles, including line, space and perspective, to create depth and composition. A unique opportunity to develop your personal artmaking skills, while gaining ideas applicable to the classroom.
This program is suitable for teachers and educators of art across all year levels.
Please note that models in the life drawing workshop will be nude.
All materials are supplied. Morning Tea and lunch are included.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the key themes, concepts and ideas in works of art and design displayed in the NGV Triennial
Create and reflect on effective ways to embed contemporary art and design in teaching practices
Develop practical strategies for activities that can be applied in the classroom
AITSL Standards:

About the artist
Prudence Flint is an artist based in Melbourne. Over three decades Flint has made work that is populated by mostly female figures in interior spaces and occasionally outdoors. She has held solo exhibitions in London, Dublin, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart, and has exhibited in major state and regional galleries. She is a seven-time finalist in the Archibald Prize. She has won the Len Fox Painting Award 2016, the Portia Geach Memorial Award 2010 and the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 2004. Her work is held by collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, City of Port Phillip, Artbank, BHP Billiton, City of Gold Coast, University of Wollongong, Castlemaine Art Museum, X Museum, and numerous private collections.
