Ahoy, Sailors!
I am very pleased to announce that the Bay Yacht Club will be hosting the Waves of Support: A Breast Cancer “Fund Race” on Saturday, October 18th! We will enjoy some fun competition with another pursuit race (stay tuned for a special “twist” on this race), followed by an awesome social with race prizes, raffles, and special crew awards for our biggest supporters!
My wonderful friend, Joshua Fraedrick, is part of a team with the I.G.N.I.T.E. the Fight campaign raising funds to benefit 3 local organizations: Breast Friends, First Friday, and Las Esperanzas (see here https://givebutter.com/ignitethefight for more information). 100% of the funds raised by this campaign stay right here in Corpus Christi, benefitting our community members directly.
To help with this fundraising effort, 100% of the fees from this race will be donated to the campaign. We will also set up a spectacular raffle event at the race social, with 100% of proceeds going to the campaign. Even more exciting - one of our fellow sailors has agreed to MATCH whatever amount we raise for this incredible cause. So, let’s break their bank! If you would also like to be a match donor, let us know ASAP!
That being said, every single aspect of hosting this race is dependent on donations and the generosity of our sailing community! We are seeking as many contributions as possible in terms of boats on the water, as well as donations to the race, social, and campaign in general.
So, how can you help?
First and foremost, get your boat out on the water! We will host competitive classes for 150s and All Sails, as well as a cruising class for non-competitive participants. The minimum race fee will be $20 for competitive classes and $10 for cruisers, but you are encouraged to collect additional donations for the cause AND to compete for the “Most Funds Raised” crew award!

Select the “Waves of Support” as your requested race for either 150s/ All Sails/cruisers, and enter your boat info. If you’ve raced in the Rum Series already, your boat info should auto-populate. If not, you’ll need to fill in all your boat info. Please let me know if I can help you register.
We are also seeking donations for crew prizes, raffle items, crew goodie bags (e.g., fun pink stuff), and post-race snacks. You are welcome to provide physical items for this or gift card/monetary donations that can be specific, designated gifts. All donations must be secured by Wednesday, October 15. Please reach out to Brooke (502-851-6250, [email protected]) directly to arrange donations. We can schedule drop-offs and pick-ups anywhere around town.
We are also looking to include breast cancer patients/survivors on boats with available spots. If you are a skipper who would be willing to open up spots on your boat for this, please contact Brooke directly to arrange this.
Finally, another great opportunity to participate would be sponsorship via your organization. If you would like to be a named sponsor for this, we can work with you on fund designation and tax-related information, as well as brand representation. Again, please contact Brooke about this.
