About this Event
Waves of Change by Breathe and Splash Swim School
Waves of Change is a curated, invitation-based gathering bringing together community leaders across swimming, ocean, water safety, education, and civic sectors to launch a bold, measurable initiative: 2,500 New Swimmers in Broward County in 2026.
For decades, and with the best of intentions, our collective attention has been focused on drowning prevention. While this work remains important, attention shapes reality — and it is time to shift from reacting to tragedy toward proactively building capability, confidence, and lifelong fluency in the water for all Florida residents.
This event marks the official kickoff of the 50 x 50 New Swimmers Commitment: 50 organizations, each committing to bring forward 50 new swimmers this year.
Together, we are positioning Broward County as the model for what’s possible when communities move beyond fear-based frameworks and into thriving, empowered relationships with every body of water — pools, oceans, lakes, and beyond.
The evening will include:
- Keynote insights from evolutionary leaders in swimming, ocean advocacy, and personal/community development
- The presence and participation of Miami Ocean Week leadership.
- Strategic conversations with city officials, nonprofit directors, and community organizers actively shaping water access and education across Broward County.
This is a working kickoff. Together we’ll create:
- Ways to make the 50 x 50 New Swimmers pledge a reality
- Funding and sponsorship pathways to remove financial barriers
- Expanding instructor capacity to serve more families
- Scaling this initiative across all cities in Broward County and beyond.
Broward County will lead the way. Florida will follow.
