To mark Baby Loss Awareness Week's Global Wave of Light, Held In Our Hearts’ Wave of Light Walk will return, Tuesday 15th October, 18:00-20:30. The candle lit procession will see families and community members come together to honour all our babies and the families who grieve for them. Meeting at 18.00, The Wave of Light Walk begins from Holyrood Park’s Broad Pavement Car Park (see What3Words : ///dinner.zealous.august). We will depart at 18.30, moving up Queen’s Drive, past St Margaret’s Loch, and turning up the hill, before we come to a congregation at Dunsapie Loch (approx. 2km from the start). Here, partakers come together in commemoration and remembrance of their little ones by lighting candles and join the Global Wave of Light at 19.00. After, there is the option to continue walking around the Queen's Drive back to the start (total distance approx. 5km), or you can return to the start by the same route we came up.
This event is free for all participants, however, if you would like to support the work we do in providing free, specialist, bereavement counselling and support services to families across Scotland, you can chose to make a donation to Held In Our Hearts when registering for the event (see ticket link below), by donating on our website, or JustGiving Baby Loss Awareness week campaign page.
This is a family friendly event, with everyone welcome to join us. If you would like to light yourselves up with fairy lights and flashing headbands, and/or wear Held In Our Hearts Pink and Blue colours for the walk, we will all shine bright together! We will be selling candles, torches, light up items, and Held In Our Hearts/BLAW merch (including our famous bobble hats) at the start of the walk.
Note on Accessibility and, Health and Safety:
• The walk is 2km up and 2km back (direct route), with the circular option (right around Arthurs Seat) being 5km distance.
• Both routes are up a hill, if you are bringing small children it is advised that you have a buggy or a suitable carrier for them.
• The route is all paved and therefore suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, however, we will be walking in the dark and so care must be taken by all attendees.
• The walk is undertaken at each individuals own risk.
