About this Event
Join us for a five-week beginner-friendly introduction to botanical watercolour painting inspired by the seasonal beauty of Toronto Botanical Garden.
Over five weeks, participants will explore the foundations of watercolour, learning essential techniques such as brush handling, water control, colour mixing, layering, and basic composition.
The course will combine technical exercises with observational painting inspired by botanical subjects and natural forms, helping participants build confidence while developing their own creative style in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Topics covered include:
- Materials and watercolour fundamentals
- Brush techniques and mark-making
- Colour theory and colour mixing
- Layering and glazing techniques
- Botanical studies
No prior experience is required.
Basic materials will be available during class. Additional materials may be recommended throughout the course for participants wishing to continue practicing independently.
Wednesdays, July 8 through August 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (five sessions)
Public $145, TBG Members $130 (plus applicable taxes and fees).
About Maria Ubeeva
Maria Ubeeva is a Toronto-based mixed media artist with a deep passion for watercolour. Drawing inspiration from botanicals, landscapes, and urban scenes, her work captures everyday beauty through expressive colour, layered textures, and delicate detail.
With extensive art training and years of creative practice, Maria has exhibited her work in community art spaces across Toronto. She is also the founder of Little by Little Art, a growing creative brand centered around prints, cards, and paper goods created from her original artwork.
Beyond her studio practice, Maria is a passionate educator and workshop instructor who believes creativity should feel welcoming and accessible to everyone - regardless of experience level. Her teaching style focuses on building confidence, encouraging observation, and helping students develop their own artistic voice in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Maria believes that painting offers a unique way to connect with nature while creating space for reflection and self-expression. Through her classes and workshops, she hopes to foster not only artistic growth, but also a genuine sense of community, curiosity, and creative joy.
