Watercoloring at Burke
About this Event
During this guided outdoor experience, we'll take a gentle walk along Burke Lake, allowing the sights, sounds, and movement of the water to become our source of inspiration. Through mindfulness practices and quiet reflection, you'll be invited to notice the beauty around you before translating your experience into watercolor.
No painting experience is necessary—this workshop is about presence, creativity, and connecting with the natural world rather than creating a perfect painting.

Welcome & Introduction (10 Minutes)
- Introductions
- Overview of the workshop experience
- Setting an intention for creativity and presence
Observation & Inspiration Walk (15 Minutes)
Participants will take a slow guided walk along the waterfront.
Prompts may include:
- What colors stand out to you?
- How does the movement of the water make you feel?
- What details are often overlooked?
- What emotions arise when observing the harbor?
Participants may jot down observations or sketch simple ideas.
Watercolor Demonstration (10 Minutes)
- Introduction to materials
- Basic watercolor techniques
- Tips for painting outdoors
- Encouragement to paint intuitively rather than perfectly
Watercolor Creation Session (40 Minutes)
Participants will choose a view, object, or scene that inspires them.
Suggestions include:
- The waterfront landscape
- Reflections on the water
- Boats and docks
- Clouds and sky
- Abstract interpretations of the experience
Facilitator support will be available throughout the painting session.
Reflection & Sharing Circle (15 Minutes)
- Optional sharing of artwork
- Reflection on the creative process
- Discussion about observation, mindfulness, and creativity
- Closing gratitude practice
