About this Event

Watercolor Tunnel Book Art Workshop for Teens

Discover the magic of storytelling through layers in this creative watercolor workshop! Teens will learn how to design and build a Watercolor Tunnel Book—a three-dimensional artwork made from multiple watercolor paper layers stacked like a shadow box, creating depth, perspective, and atmosphere.

Using drawing and watercolor techniques, participants will create a scenic composition where each layer adds a new visual element to the story.

Ages: 8–14

Level: All levels welcome — no prior art experience needed

Materials: All supplies provided

Location: Fort York Library – Meeting Room (1st Floor)

Instructor: Artist Cindy Li

What Students Will Learn

  • How to plan and create a scene using layered composition
  • Basic drawing and watercolor techniques
  • How depth and perspective work in multi-layered art
  • How to construct and assemble a tunnel book step by step

How It Works

  • Participants will build their artwork layer by layer:
  • Background washes and sky
  • Architectural or landscape elements (such as houses or trees)
  • Foreground details and characters
  • Final layers for grass, texture, and depth
  • The instructor will demonstrate each step—from drawing and painting to assembling the tunnel book—ensuring everyone feels confident and supported.

A relaxed, friendly workshop that encourages imagination, experimentation, and hands-on creativity.
