Watercolor II: Vintage-Inspired Butterflies
Advertisement
Butterflies have long inspired artists and naturalists alike, appearing in field guides, scientific studies, and beautifully detailed vintage illustrations. In this two-part class, watercolor enthusiasts will learn how to paint a butterfly inspired by these timeless works of art.
In the first session on Friday, August 14, participants will choose from a limited selection of butterfly images and transfer their chosen design onto watercolor paper using either a template or freehand drawing. After guided practice exercises, the remaining class time will be spent applying the first light layers of color in preparation for more detailed work in the second session.
In the second session on Friday, August 21, we'll gather again in Virginia's House to add deeper colors and finer details, bringing dimension and depth to our paintings.
Completed paintings will capture the delicate beauty of these winged pollinators and make a lovely addition to a gallery wall, nature journal, or seasonal display.
Prerequisite: This class is designed for those with prior experience. Participants must have taken Watercolor 101.
