Join this fun birding field trip with Colin Urmson at Casey Forebay at the Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto to see migratory ducks and waders, check out a good spot for Sora and Common Gallinule, and listen for the endangered Ridgway's Rail. Colin is a 17-year old member of SFBBO's Teen Program who volunteers in our avian disease prevention and tidal marsh habitat restoration programs. He is passionate about birding, and during the past two years he has seen or heard nearly every species that breeds in the county. He recently learned birding techniques from the eBird staff at Cornell Lab of Ornithology and met researcher Adriaan Doktor when he attended a young birders event this past summer. This event is open to everyone, but is especially appropriate for teens (kids less than 14 years old need to be accompanied by an adult). Participants can submit their photos from the day to the Bird Photo Big Day to help increase our collective species count. ---------------
This field trip is part of SFBBO's 2022 California Fall Challenge (CFC) Bird Photo Big Day. This activity is a fundraiser, so we hope that, in addition to registering, you will consider giving generously for birds and help us continue conserving them for many decades to come.
While we welcome support from everyone, the field trip will be limited to 10 participants.
All volunteers and participants will be asked to please follow SFBBO's COVID-19 Prevention Policy protocols:
- Wear a well-fitting mask at all times during the event
- Stay 6 feet apart from others who are not in your household
- Prior to the event, all participants will be asked to complete a health self-assessment form at home and sign a liability waiver.
