Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh's BIO:
A driving force in Palestinian environmentalism, with over 150 scientific papers and several books to his name, Professor Qumsiyeh is a trailblazer in the fields of biodiversity and cultural heritage.
After earning his B.S. in Biology from the University of Jordan in 1978, he pursued his passion for zoology, obtaining a Masters from the University of Connecticut and a PhD from Texas Tech University. Certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics, he made significant contributions to genetic research during his tenure at prestigious institutions like Duke University and Yale University.
In 2014, Professor Qumsiyeh returned to Palestine and founded the Palestinian Museum of Natural History and the Palestine Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability, leveraging his expertise and passion for education and outreach. His commitment to environmental advocacy has garnered international attention, with features in publications like The Washington Post and The New York Times, and appearances on CNBC and ABC news networks.
Beyond academia, Professor Qumsiyeh is a champion for human rights, lecturing at esteemed institutions worldwide and co-founding Academics for Justice. His dedication to solidarity and environmental sustainability has earned him prestigious awards, including the Paul K. Feyerabend Award and recognition from the Takreem Foundation in 2020.
