About this Event
Please join us for our final concert of the 2025-26 season, where we will feature music inspired by ‘Water’. Dvořák created several tone poems, including The Water Goblin, that were influenced by folk stories based on legendary characters, derived from poetry by Karel Jaromír Erben.
Canadian composer Christine Donkin created a piece that connects Canada’s history of water travel and pays homage to the many peoples who navigated the waters using a variety of craft, but most notably the canoe. Canoe Legends was commissioned by the Peterborough Symphony and the Canadian Canoe Museum on 2017. The Unity Singers, a four voice Indigenous ensemble, will be featured in this performance.
Claude Debussy was long fascinated by the sea and spent many summers away from the city, near to the ocean. La Mer is a work based on his impressions and encounters with the many different iterations of the sea.
