Watch & Learn Food Artist Class - Gus Smithhisler, Squashcarver

Gus Smithhisler is a talented artist renowned for his intricate carvings of squash and gourds. It all started over 21 years ago in 2001 at the Indiana State Fair Pumpkin Weigh-off. He grew pumpkins for fun and entered them in the competition. After it was over, he thought that all these giant pumpkins shouldn't just go into the compost heap. Someone should carve them! Thus his pumpkin carving career began."

He is a self-taught artist. He enjoyed drawing in high school and college, but never had formal training. Art is his passion.

Over the years, Gus has honed his skills and developed his unique style of carving. He uses a variety of tools to create detailed designs and patterns on his chosen medium, whether it be a pumpkin, acorn squash, or melons.

Gus Smithhisler will be at Market District in Upper Arlington for a fruit & veggie carving demo. He'll also be teaching a class on how to carve vegetables into flowers.

Space is Limited for the Watch & Learn class. Tickets are required for the Watch & Learn portion of the food artist's demonstration. Tickets are made available on a first-come, first-serve basis. After the formal instruction, all are welcome to stop by and observe the demonstration.
