Stories Steeped in Stone is proud to bring you to our August chapter in the summer story arc, Wasn't It Grand? A Theatrical Retrospective of Sault Ste. Marie's Original Opera House. Timothy Murphy brings his unique brand of entertainment to the Heritage Discovery Theatre stage located at The Ermatinger National Historic Site, this August 18th at 7 pm.
“Wasn't It Grand?" is a retrospective of the Grand Opera House located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie in 1902 and offers a look back in time at the variety of entertainment that graced its stage in its brief but extraordinary existence: from full scale operas to burlesque shows and from vaudeville acts to wrestling matches. With a narrative derived from newspaper articles and historical accounts of the time delivered in character featuring multimedia exhibits and excerpts from productions that actually appeared there, today's audiences will experience what local audiences of the era would have enjoyed. It's a piece of local history that deserves to live again and should never be forgotten.
For those joining us in person, your ticket of $25 will provide 2 wine or beer or other beverage & heritage appetizers that are themed to the event.
