Discover the beauty of traditional Japanese Washi art at this free four-day international exhibition celebrating cultural exchange, creativity and disability-inclusive art.

Featuring artists from Japan and Australia, the exhibition showcases contemporary Washi artworks, AJA-SA origami and calligraphy workshops (gold coin donation), and special workshops and creative experiences led by international Japanese artist Monica (paid).

Visitors of all ages and abilities are welcome.

About the Exhibition

This international cultural exchange project brings together artists from Japan and Australia while highlighting the social value of disability-inclusive art.

Through contemporary Washi art, the exhibition aims to foster mutual understanding between cultures and demonstrate how art can connect people beyond language, nationality and ability.

Midorino Kaeru (Gigi) – Lead Artist

Experience contemporary Washi artworks created using traditional Japanese paper, exploring themes of nature, coexistence, circulation and life.

The exhibition's central concept, "Messages from a World Without Words," invites visitors to experience emotion and meaning beyond verbal language.

Australian Guest Artists

Discover works by Adelaide artists:

• David Kennett
• Ryo Muto

Inspired by Japanese culture, their works offer contemporary Australian perspectives while Ryo integrates traditional Japanese Shoji screens and lamps with Midorino Kaeru's Washi art.

International Guest Artist – Monica

Meet international Japanese artist Monica, whose practice is inspired by ancient Japanese Dogu clay figurines and disability-inclusive art.

During the exhibition, Monica will also present special paid workshops and creative experiences.

During the exhibition you'll have the opportunity to participate in:
