Today caustic Tyneside five-piece Pit Pony release new single Thunder. Rooted in the vivid wonder of one of lead vocalist Jackie’s childhood memories, the track draws on a moment when a friend claimed to have seen Thor in the clouds during a storm — and, instead of dismissing it, her dad simply said he believed her. That sense of awe runs through the single, with Jackie’s lyrics transforming a storm of heavy guitars and earth-shattering bass into something both fearsome and magical.
On Thunder, Pit Pony channel myth, memory and raw emotional force into a song about weathering the stormy side of life. There are nods to star signs, old legends and the allure of higher powers — the kind of beliefs that once made the gods feel close enough to reach. With references to Thor and the fantasy of one day wielding his hammer, the single leans into the idea that maybe belief itself can help carry us through chaos. Powerful and evocative, Thunder captures the pull between vulnerability and strength, grounding personal reflection in something larger, louder and electrifying.
Jackie comments on the single, “When I was little, my childhood best friend Annabel told me she’d seen Thor in the clouds during a storm. I remember her dad never questioning her — he just said he believed her — and I thought, wow, maybe she did. That stayed with me, because storms always felt magical to me as a child, something glorious and completely out of our control. Thunder is about that stormy side of life — not always getting to where you hoped to, and trying to make sense of the things you can’t change. There’s a nod to being a Virgo, to myths and legends and higher powers that once felt within reach. I love the idea that maybe we can evoke something to help us through the storm — maybe one day we can wield Thor’s hammer. Why can’t we believe it?”
Pit Pony’s first new music since 2025’s critically acclaimed sophomore album Dead Stars, Thunder was recorded late last summer with Jackie 7 months pregnant and the band wanting to capture the excitement and the energy of newly penned material before understandably taking a break for the new arrival. Pit Pony will take Thunder and other new material on the road in October 2026, with a hometown fixture at The Grove alongside dates in Glasgow and Leeds.
Forming in Newcastle in 2017, identity and life experiences have formed the backbone of Pit Pony’s sound. Over the years they’ve played live extensively with the likes of IDLES, PigsX7 and The Futureheads alongside standout festival performances. Continuously, they remain loyal to their roots sonically nodding towards regional titans such as the aforementioned ‘Heads’ and Nadine Shah with Jackie Purver always staying true to her accent.
Mastering engineer Katie Tavini (Bloc Party, Nadine Shah & Arlo Parks. ) proves the perfect fit with Chris McManus (Blank Studios) heading up recording & production on Thunder. The track follows 2022’s debut album ‘World To Me’ and last year’s sophomore record ‘Dead Stars’.
