On Friday, April 24 from 6-7 p.m. at Upper Landing Park in Poughkeepsie, kids are called to Upper Landing Park in Poughkeepsie to get hands on and learn all about the extraordinary life cycle of the mysterious American Eel that can be found right in our backyard swimming in the Hudson River.
With many parts of their lives remaining unknown, scientists are continually asking questions about these fascinating creatures. This presentation highlights local efforts to monitor the incoming baby American Eels, known as Glass Eels.
Presenter Jackie Brooks, an environmental educator with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Student Conservation Association, has been working with the Norrie Point Environmental Education Center since getting their start interning with the Hudson River Eel Project in 2024.
All Walkway Connections events are free to attend and appropriate for all ages. Walkway Connections is supported in part by the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and The M&T Charitable Foundation.
