Walking Wîhkwêntôwin

As one of Edmonton’s oldest neighbourhoods, Wîhkwêntôwin, also known as Oliver, also known as the West End, has seen a lot of changes over the years and has long been one of the densest neighbourhoods in the city. It’s also a thriving, vibrant area to live in. Through visiting older and newer buildings, this walk will invite you to think about how welcoming and managing change is integral to a neighbourhood’s wellbeing. The route will be almost entirely on sidewalks. We will be walking through one or two blocks of an alley, which is paved, but is rougher terrain than a sidewalk. We will be walking down Jasper Avenue for about two blocks as well, which is loud. The walk is about 2.6km long, with an optional last kilometre walk back to the Exchange (for a total distance of about 3.6km).
