Walking with Shadows - A Dance and Creative Literacy Experience
About this Event
This is a free dance performance suitable for all ages with an extension of its theme exploration through post-show crafts activities for children age 3 and up. There is also an option to donate to Stockbridge Primary School Parent Council to support the school's educational resources and programme.
SESSION STRUCTURE
Part 1: Dance Showcase (15 minutes)
A short family-friendly dance performance introduces audience to themes from Stevenson’s My Shadow alongside imagery from Psalm 23
This dance performance externalises the imagery of shadows, guidance, and journeying together. The movement responds to Stevenson’s My Shadow poetry alongside imagery from Psalm 23
Part 2: Creative Engagement Stations (30-45 minutes)
Following the performance, children in the audience are invited to participate and explore the themes from the dance performance (ie. child-like curiosity, innocence & purity, assurance and protection) through movement exploration and crafts. There will be 4 arts activity stations:
Station A: Shadow Movement Exploration
Children experiment with shapes and movement inspired by their own shadows and Stevenson’s poem.
Station B: Lamb Craft Activity
A creative response to shepherd imagery from Psalm 23.
Station C: Shepherd’s Staff Bookmark Craft
A simple bookmark-making activity symbolising guidance and care.
Station D: Paper House Craft
A reflective activity exploring the idea of home, safety, and belonging.
