About this Event

Most people go to Olympia to visit an event in its vast labyrinth of exhibition halls, but there is so much more to be learned in this area. The site is being renovated and updated at the moment so, with less people about, it's a great time to investigate the streets that surround the complex.

Find out about transportation, education, distribution, demolition, innovation and commemoration.

Hear about the station's varied history and how the adjacent conglomeration of exhibition halls evolved throughout the past century and how it continues to be transformed for today's needs.

Venture into the backstreets to find a cross-section of marvellous residential architecture interspersed with impressive Victorian and Edwardian façades that were previously constructed as workplaces for thousands of employees who flooded here daily. Find out how these buildings are being used today.

We'll also look at signs of manufacture, music and museums, transport and trade, parks and pubs and distribution hubs, plus cakes and candles, antiques and Art Deco. Hear about some World famous names who lived in the area.

  • The walk begins and ends at Olympia station (Overground Line) and lasts just under 2 hours. The exact meeting point will be clearly written at the foot of your ticket which will be sent to you via email after purchase. Please do not rely on info given by non-Eventbrite apps which have been known to provide incorrect map references.

Customer feedback: "Marvellous – I will be coming back for more ... I love how you point out all the little quirks and make it so much more interesting than other academic-style guides. And you make it fun too. Thanks" / " Unbelievable how much I 'didn't' know about where I grew up. Streets I had never walked down, history I knew nothing about. Jane's enthusiasm is infectious and I highly recommend her walks. My favourite guide." / "You even kept my teenager interested. No mean feat!" / "Your enthusiasm shines though" / "...every time so engaging, thanks to your delivery style and obvious thirst for knowledge" / "Loved the walk. You’re a fab guide Jane" / "Thanks for the inspiration. See you again soon." /

Can I just show up and pay on arrival?

No, I'm sorry – this is a ticketed event and spaces are limited – places must be booked in advance.

Where exactly does this tour start?

No. I will have a list of the named attendees.

Yes. Rain does not stop play... it's only water... bring a brolly!
