About this Event

Put on your walking shoes and join in on this fascinating walkabout of one of Washington, DC’s oldest military facilities. Established in the 1790s, the Washington Navy Yard was an important shipping, manufacturing, and logistical base along the historic Anacostia River. The Washington Navy Yard has seen presidents, royalty, and other significant historical figures and has employed many civilian and military figures. Their stories and the stories of interesting historical artifacts, buildings, and homes associated with the Navy Yard, including the current National Museum of the United States Navy, will be shared on this roughly one hour and fifteen-minute walk of the picturesque Washington Navy Yard. Come with us and learn about the legacy of the Washington Navy Yard and its contributions to the United States, and the historical fabric of the nation’s capital.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Head coverings, sunscreen, and sunglasses can be helpful during the summer months. Please also consider bringing bottled water.

The Washington Navy Yard Walking Tour is offered on the second and last Saturdays of each month, April through September.

Parking: There is no parking at Washington Navy Yard; however, paid and free parking is located in various areas surrounding the yard.

When and Where to Meet Up: We will meet on foot at the 11th and O St. SE gate at 10am. Please be prompt.
