About this Event
Join NYC H2O for Walking the Harlem River, a series of walks engaging with the waterfront of the Harlem River in the Bronx. This walk will visit the waterfront of University Heights and Fordham Manor, where several enormous new residential towers may soon break ground, transforming an industrial landscape. Currently home to a scrap yard and tow pound, the coastline here is almost completely hidden from view and fenced off. For a preview of what may come, we will walk across the University Heights Bridge, where new waterfront towers are already rising in Inwood, impacting waterfront parks and hidden coves. This walk will consider the past, present and future of this unique stretch of the Harlem River, while also discussing the proposed Harlem River Greenway.
This walk is designed and led by Nathan Kensinger, a journalist, photographer, filmmaker and curator, who has been documenting New York City’s changing waterfront for 15 years. More of his work can be seen at his website: www.nathankensinger.com
Walking the Harlem River is generously supported by a grant from the New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program and the Hudson River Foundation. Please note: This walk is one way, starting in Fordham Manor in The Bronx, and ending in Inwood, in upper Manhattan.
