Walking as Remapping: River Sketch Walk with Pearl Van Geest
About this Event
Join Pearl Van Geest for a guided walk exploring the water’s edge, inspired by For a Spell, her work on view currently in the exhibition Windfall Light. Drawing on the vibrancy of landscape reflections observed from a canoe, the work layers watercolour as well as prints and impressions of natural materials to evoke the shifting relationship between water, light, and place.
Participants will meet at the River Run Centre, take a short walk, and spend time working with pastels and paint in response to the surrounding landscape. Materials will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks and preferred art materials if they wish.
Come prepared to walk, observe, and experiment through drawing and painting as we consider how movement, reflection, and mark-making can offer new ways of seeing our environment.
Open to all. Registration is required as space is limited.

Accessibility: This event will involve walking on flat gravel or cement walkways and some uneven dirt trails, with several stops to talk or draw. There generally will not be formal seating where we stop, except for logs, blankets, etc. There may be slight inclines to the edge of the water. We suggest using the washroom before the walk as we can’t guarantee access along the trail. Please contact [email protected] in advance if you have accessibility questions or for further information.

The Walking is Remapping series is presented by the Art Gallery of Guelph with the support of TD Friends of the Environment.
