About this Event

Join us on Thursday, July 16 at 5:30 pm for a sketch walk with artist Monica Tap.

Building on her work currently on view in Windfall Light, participants will explore ways of seeing and recording the landscape through walking, observation, and simple sketching exercises. Drawing inspiration from the University of Guelph Arboretum, Tap will introduce her approach to creating layered landscapes that emerge through assemblages of trees, plants, pathways, and shifting perspectives.

Given that an arboretum or garden is itself an assemblage, there is a natural resonance with Tap's painting practice, which brings together multiple observations, viewpoints, and experiences of place into a single image. Participants will be invited to respond to the shapes, forms, and relationships they encounter along the walk through a series of informal sketching activities. No prior drawing experience is required. Materials will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks and preferred art materials if they wish.

Open to all. Registration is required, as space is limited.
