Join Clive Dawson (Chair of the Friends of York Cemetery) on a walk through time to discover some of the remarkable trees we care for.
York Cemetery is home to around 2,000 trees, including 1,000 native British varieties in the Modern Section, with Ash, Oak, Yew, Birch and many more to explore. In 2020, the Friends of York Cemetery planted five disease-resistant Elm trees - the first Elms planted here in over 60 years.
The Victorian cemetery, opened in 1837 as a Garden Cemetery, also contains a fascinating collection of exotic and historic trees, including the Tulip Tree, Snowdrop Tree and the ancient Ginkgo biloba, whose ancestors grew on Earth over 200 million years ago.
Join us for an afternoon discovering the stories, history and beauty of these remarkable trees.
Meet at the Chapel at 2pm, the guided walk will be approximately 1 hr and 30 mins. This is an outside event so please dress accordingly.
Just come along, no need for a ticket!
We suggest a donation of Β£5, or Β£2 for Friends and children.
-----
As with all events, please be aware that no pets (except assistance dogs) are allowed in the cemetery grounds. This is for the comfort and welfare of all our users.
