The Walk to Remember, honoring pregnancy, infant and child loss, is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
The event will begin in the Day Surgery gallery of the hospital (hallway left of the Emergency Department entrance) with a reception and an opportunity to create remembrance art. Beginning at 10 a.m., the walk begins and continues to University Lake. The event concludes with a brief ceremony of remembrance at the lake.
The Walk to Remember is a nationwide annual event that occurs in October as part of Pregnancy, Infant & Child Loss Awareness Month and in recognition of all pregnancy losses, including miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, fetal deaths and neonatal deaths, as well as the loss of a child. The Alaska Walk to Remember is held each August so it occurs before the first winter snowfall and ensures people of all ages can participate.
The Walk to Remember is sponsored by the Providence Alaska Children’s Hospital Bereavement Council.
This is a family-friendly event, and all are invited to attend.
If you are unable to attend the Walk but would like to participate in the service, please join us at 10:20 a.m. on the Providence Health Alaska Facebook page for a livestream of the event.
