About this Event

Join Saving Devon's Treescapes for an exciting collaboration with poet Chris Waters and Sue Holland, from Creative Beings, for a Walk through Woods and Words at the National Trust's Ashclyst Forest.

We will amble through the spectacular treescape, taking in the tranquility of the space and season, whilst imbibing the words of a selection of classic and modern poets, including those of poet and musician, Chris Waters. There will be ample time to slow down and breathe, sit and reflect, and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the woodland.

We are delighted to come together with Chris Waters and Sue Holland, from Creative Beings, for this event.

Chris Waters is a poet and musician, living in South Devon. He is a published poet with four poetry collections who has won several prizes, including the Bridport Prize for his poetry. Chris particularly enjoys live readings and collaborations with fellow musicians as well as many other creative projects, including a spell as a storyteller for the National Trust.

Sue Holland is a facilitator with a passion for plants and nature connection. As a Botanist she is dedicated to developing an agroecology Food Forest in East Devon, with a focus on supporting wildlife and biodiversity. She is a Director of Creative Beings CIC and believes in the power of collaboration. She has worked on many projects with both Chris Waters and Devon Wildlife Trust.

Special thanks to the National Trust for allowing us to use this amazing site for the poetry walk.

About Ashclyst Forest

Ashclyst Forest is one of the largest woods in East Devon and is part of the larger Killerton Estate, owned and managed by the . It is managed commercially and for wildlife and is a haven for many butterflies and birds.

Ashclyst is a large woodland, but the area we will be exploring is mostly flat, with some gentle inclines on a fairly even surfaced path.

This event is organised by Saving Devon's Treescapes, a project led by Devon Wildlife Trust on behalf of the Devon Ash Dieback Resilience Forum. Saving Devon’s Treescapes is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, this project aims to strengthen Devon's treescapes in the face of ash dieback disease. The project is working with Devon's communities, landowners and businesses to plant and nurture 250,000 trees outside of woodlands across Devon.

This project is also generously funded by One Tree Planted and other funders.
