Oaklands Wetland is a special part of the Sturt River corridor, and what better time to spot your local birds than in Spring? Bird-watcher and landcare volunteer, Andrew Crouch, leads a guided discovery walk of the site exploring from the mud flats and reeds to the tree hollows and canopy cover. More than 60 bird species have been recorded since the wetland was constructed with more finds being recorded all the time.
Have you been trying to identify a new bird in your garden? Here is your chance to put the question! Become more familiar with bird calls by listening and sharing the experience with others. BYO binoculars, field guides or your favourite bird phone app if you have them. Photographers most welcome.
MEETING POINT:
Meet at the rear car park of Oaklands Wetland, 237-265 Oaklands Road, from 7.30am. Look for the Wariparri Wagon - the volunteer trailer for Friends of Sturt River Landcare group. We will be set up in the nearby shelter shed.
We intend to begin our walk from 7.45am and will provide plenty of time for watching, listening, spotting and asking questions. Once we have completed the tour, we will amble back to the shelter shed for coffee/tea, muffins, Q+A and general bird talk.
Participants are welcome to stay for the following session 'Come and try - Friends of Sturt River Landcare Group' that follows. Sign up for both or choose whichever you'd like.
