Walk Run Ride & Resistance! is a wellness event hosted in conjuction with Maroon Calabash and Run Black & Green to commemorate the actions of Harriet Tubman on June 02, 1863 leading Union soldiers during the Civil War on the Combahee River Raid liberating 750 enslaved people from South Carolina rice plantations. During this mission Tubman tripped and fell because her army issued skirt was too long. To move more freely and unencumbered she tore the skirt. This act symbolizes her self determination to accomplish her goal despite the obstacles. Today as we encounter legislation to limit our growth, our educational, economic and physical wellness, we must push on and create opportunities to make our health a priority despite the obstacles. As children of those who survived, to exist is to resist. Join us for a 10 mile bike ride or a 3K walk or run!
