Walk Portage Path - Portage Path Collaborative: Join elders and students from the Northern Cheyenne Nation who are visiting their friends and colleagues at the Lippman School as part of Akron and Summit County's recognition of North American First People's Day. This walk, the day before the designated day (always the first Monday in October), is free and open to the public.It will start at 1:30 p.m. at Portage Path CLC at 55 S. Portage Path. The one mile walk with have Akron Police Department escort to the John Brown House where guests can listen to the drummers and watch the students dance in their regalia.
The City of Akron will provide a bus for guests to return their cars in Highland Square after the program.
The event is part of programming for the Portage Path Collaborative consisting of the Summit County Historical Society of Akron, Lippman School and Jewish Akron, the Akron History Center, Summit Metro Parks, Akron-Summit County Public Library, Akron Art Museum, LaDonna BlueEye and Chuck Ayres.
Other programs happening that day include a guided walk at 10:00 a.m. on the History of the Portage Path at Summit Metro Park's Big Bend Trailhead to the Portage Path Northern Terminus statue designed by artist Peter Jones (Seneca/Onondaga). Featured speakers include Dr. Megan Shaeffer and Dave Lieberth. The walk and talk will end at 11:30 a.m.
