About the Tour -
Learn about Asian Art in the Heritage Museum of Asian Art with a guided hour-long tour around the gallery. Museum-trained interns and volunteers will give a talk on selected artworks. Each word is packed with fascinating insights, information, and stories. During this participatory experience, you'll connect with works from across the collection and get a close look at highlighting artworks. Visitors of all ages are welcome.
Special Performance: As part of the Chinese moon festival activation, Juliann Wang's performance is inspired from a Buddhist phrase "the Dragon's Roar of a Dead Tree" as a vivid symbol of Zen Buddhism's wonderful use of the original mind. It is said only by cutting off the discrimination can a new life be obtained, by removing delusion can we experience true life and joy. This is a presentation upon continuing observance of the Year of the Dragon, as well as musical components that revel in themes of Moon Festival. The presentation combines music, poetry/spoken word, and dance with a run time between 20-35 min.
Artist Bio:
Juliann Wang is a Chicago-based contemporary interdisciplinary artist, tea practitioner, and performer working at the intersection of experience and meditative practice. Presenting works centered on immersive engagement, she invites audiences to find moments of encountering through a range of mediums for contemplation and healing. Studying both Chinese and Japanese tea for more than a decade, she explores methods of tea consumption, experience, and execution to develop a translation of practice that is at once approachable with a depth of personal and cultural context that can encompass a lifetime.
Please note tours may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
