About this Event

Over 52% of the world’s farmable soil is degraded, contributing to nutritional imbalances for 2 billion people. The next decade is critical to reversing this crisis—together we can bring awareness about soil health and secure the future of our children and our planet.

About Save Soil Movement :

Save Soil is a global people’s movement launched by Conscious Planet, founded by Sadhguru, to address an existential crisis – the rapid degradation of agricultural soils. Over the last three decades, Save Soil has implemented a holistic strategy for soil revitalization through scalable farmer-driven projects, policy advocacy, and citizen awareness campaigns.

The movement is working with governments across the globe to shape soil policies, and is supporting over 250,000 farmers in India to transition to various other regenerative agricultural practices, including agroforestry. In 2022, Sadhguru rode a motorcycle 30,000km across the globe in 100 days to raise mass awareness of the soil crisis. Through digital, mass media, and community engagements, the Save Soil movement’s awareness campaigns have reached over 4.1 billion people globally, creating a groundswell of support for soil-friendly policies and practices. We aim to bring back at least 3-6% organic matter in the soil, based on regional conditions, by bringing the land under shade from vegetation & enriching the soil through plant litter and animal waste.

Save Soil is backed by the UN Environment Program, UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, UN Convention to Combat Desertification, World Food Program, and IUCN, amongst others.

About Sadhguru:

Yogi, Mystic and Visionary, Sadhguru is among the most influential voices of our times. A New York Times bestselling author, Sadhguru is acclaimed as a speaker and opinion-maker of international renown. His videos, which stream in 35 languages on social media, were viewed more than 4.37 billion times in 2023 alone. He is the only living Indian to have received three Presidential Awards from three different Presidents, among which are India’s highest annual civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, and India’s highest environmental award, the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar.

As part of the Conscious Planet initiative, he has also launched the world’s largest people’s movement – Save Soil, which has so far reached over 4.1 billion people and was greatly instrumental in bringing soil, agriculture, and food systems to the forefront.

Parking instructions

There's street parking on Stockton Dr. There's paid parking at the Chicago History Museum (1756 N Stockton Drive), which is very close to the registration and starting point of the walkathon. The Lincoln Park Zoo has its own dedicated parking, but that is expensive for a 3-4 hour event. There are several decently large parking garages, both self-park and valet-only, close to the starting point, and they are reasonable in cost.

Local Transit instructions

This area is very well connected with the CTA bus network. bus no. 151 and 156 stop right in front of the starting point along Clark St or Stockton Dr, and the stops are accessible. This area is very well visited by people on foot, runners, families, people playing sports, etc. Finding local transit would not be a challenge. The closest 'L' stations are Fullerton or Armitage (Brown/Red/Purple lines), though they require a 10-15 minute walk, according to park maps.
