Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. It affects 1 in 4 black men, 1in 8 white men and 1 in 12 Asian men in the UK alone. We need to talk about prostate cancer!

Although it affects all men, did you know that black men are more likely to get prostate cancer than other men, who have a 1 in 8 chance of getting prostate cancer? You may also be more likely to get prostate cancer as a black man if: you are aged 45 or over – and your risk increases as you get older. your father or brother has had it.

More than 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in England. More than 9,000 men die from prostate cancer every year in England. Every hour, one man dies from prostate cancer in England. More than 325,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer in England.

Who is Errol McKellar?

Errol McKellar, MBE is the founder of The Errol McKellar Foundation and a Prostate Cancer survivor.

Errol’s journey with prostate cancer started at the end of 2010 when his wife was complaining about his snoring and how it was difficult for her to get off to sleep. So Errol suggested that she make an appointment with the doctor.

Errol was a mechanic and MOT tester and was out of work for 6 months and when he went back to work, in his first week a man came in to the garage to have some work done on his car and they got chatting about why he was away for so long.

He was the first of the 48 men who came into Errol’s garage who was diagnosed with prostate related issues.

Errol became an ambassador for Prostate Cancer UK along with Linford Christie, David Haye, Danny John-Jules, Viv Anderson and Benjamin Zephaniah fronting many campaigns including their Stronger Knowing More campaign, which encourages black men to get PSA tests.

Errol also became an ambassador for Go Dad Run, which was created in 2013 by triple world champion athlete Colin Jackson to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other men's health issues.

In 2012 Errol was chosen to be one of the Olympic torch- bearers in Hackney and in 2016 Errol’s volunteer work in the community was recognised by the Prime Minister when he was presented with a Points of Light Award.

In 2018, The Errol McKellar Foundation was launched and was invited to 10 Downing Street to talk to the Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Health and the Head of NHS England about the prostate cancer awareness work the new charity would undertake.

In October 2020, Errol was immensely proud to be awarded an MBE in the delayed announcement of the Queen’s Birthday Honour’s List for services to raising the awareness of Prostate Cancer.

The mission at The Errol McKellar Foundation is to talk to as many men and their partners as possible to ensure they are fully aware of the dangers posed by prostate cancer, its potential symptoms and the available tests. We want to stop men from dying through ignorance and fear.

Errol wants to launch a mobile PSA blood testing vehicles to enable and encourage men over 45 to have their PSA blood test in their local area witho impacting the currently overworked NHS! It’s vital that men are tested. A simple blood test could save lives!!

Please come along and support us, we need our community to help us save lives!
