About this Event
Ireland is seeing a transition towards more inclusive infrastructure for walking and cycling. The recently installed scheme on Lower Kilmacud Road in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County, including the protected junction at Eden Park and nearby modal filters, is a prime example. The design for this scheme also inspired the recent NTA Cycle Design Manual.
Do you want to gain experience designing inclusive infrastructure for walking and cycling? Then, we invite you to join a Walk and Talk along Lower Kilmacud Road with Conor Geraghty (Senior Engineer on Active Travel at DLRCC) and Robin van der Griend (Sustainable Mobility Advisor at Mobycon).
Conor and Robin worked together on the scheme's design and can explain more about the design considerations they made. The cycle network in this area was expanded rapidly using modal filters to create safe and quiet streets. This low cost approach also has the benefit of creating more liveable streets for the local residents. This is a great example of where you can bring a community with you while also achieving your goals in delivering a network. Together with participants, they will discuss what has worked well and what can be done better next time. For more information on modal filters, watch this video:
Get your tickets now and be part of this unique, hands-on journey exploring inclusive infrastructure for walking and cycling. We can't wait to have you with us!
Note: this event and discussion is aimed at planning and engineering professionals from local authorities.
