About this Event

Wagashi Workshops

A beginner-friendly series of hands-on cooking workshops to learn the fundamentals of Japanese style confections (commonly called 和菓子 wagashi), traditionally enjoyed with tea.

About the Workshop

A quick introduction at the beginning of the class will cover the history and tradition of the seasonal wagashi, and a chance to learn about some of the lesser-known ingredients.

A hands-on approach will let the students learn the different techniques to create these traditional confections, and at the end of the class, attendees will get to take home their creations.

Equipment and ingredients will be provided. All skill levels are welcome.  However, we will be working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, so a minimum age of 16 is recommended.

Please bring your own apron and a small container to take home your creations at the end of the class.

About the Instructor

Sen Sakamoto is a Vancouver-based creative designer, wagashi maker, and passionate educator on traditional Japanese foods and culture. Follow her at on Instagram for regular deep dives into the world of seasonal wagashi and other Japanese traditions.
