Meet Pioneer Member Suzanne Vargo and enjoy her narrative on her ancestor Patrick Hayes.
A young man born in county Limerick, Ireland, sails to the Pacific Northwest in order to stake his claim of the American dream, where hard work and generosity help shape the earliest White River Valley
Territory in 1860. A man of many firsts, Hayes was an industrious, clever, and successful member of the community.
A resident for over 61 years in the Kent area. It is written that there was no more useful citizen of that section and throughout his life, was known for his high standards of citizenship and for valuable influence in behalf of morality, education, and religion. Patrick Hayes was a principal hop grower of the county and in later years engaged extensively in the dairy business. A fortune was made and given away to support his faithful causes throughout our region. This joyful yet quirky gentleman was always conscientious of his fellow man and the struggles of the times. The South Puget Sound area has been blessed by numerous historic structures/places that were made possible through his generosity and devoted Catholic religion.
Liz Blaszczak will provide an update on Collections Committee progress.
Alan Murray will update us on the progress being made to rehabilitate Pioneer Hall.
