About this Event

Designed for students who have a complete knowledge of jewelry making techniques. Individual instruction will be provided after students submit a written proposal of their project. Students are responsible for providing all materials necessary for their project. Use of the hydraulic press will be available following a tutorial on its use.

A complete knowledge of soldering is required for this class. Students may be asked to demonstrate their soldering ability & knowledge of safety procedures. This is not a beginners class.

First day of class is mandatory.

Barnsdall Arts Center Program Policies
Before you register…
  • Students must be 18 years or older to enroll in a Barnsdall Arts Center class.
  • Senior age is 62 years and older.
  • All classes are “first come, first served.”
  • Material lists will be provided. Students are responsible for reading the materials lists and purchasing tools and art supplies before the start of class.
  • Notices (class cancellations, schedule changes, etc.) are sent via email. Emergency notifications are done by phone.
  • Read all of our policies carefully. By registering for a class, you agree to abide by all written policies. Failure to follow policy may result in not being able to register for future sessions.

Registration Policies
  • Due to our limited programming, please refrain from signing up for more than 2 classes during this registration period.
  • One (1) ticket per person at a time. Students looking to register for a second class OR for an additional person must re-enter the line after they register for their class.
  • Due to high demand, students can only register for either one (1) jewelry OR one (1) ceramics class per session.
  • Waitlists will start once the class becomes full. As spots become available, waitlisted students will be contacted via phone or email informing them they have 24 hours to register.
  • Due to the technical processes of certain classes, missing multiple classes will impact your learning experience. The Teaching Artist is not obligated to catch students up for missed class. Absenteeism may result in being dropped from the class.
  • If you must drop a class, please give at least 48 hour notice prior to the first day of class.

  • The person whose name is registered is the only one who may attend the class.

Cancellation Policy
  • All classes are at risk of cancellation if at least 50% of the class slots are not filled by the end of the first class. In case of a cancellation due to low enrollment, students will be notified immediately by email. The class fee, minus the first class meeting costs, will be refunded. The lab fees will be refunded. 

Fees & Refund Policies
  • Lab fees will be collected during the registration process and are non-refundable.
  • The Request Form of class fee refunds, class credits and transfers must be submitted with all required documentation before the 2nd class in the session.
  • Refunds will be mailed by the Department of Cultural Affairs as a check. Refunds may take between 4 to 8 weeks to process.
  • Refunds for class fees paid by check can only be processed if a copy of the check and receipt is provided.
  • Class credits are good for one (1) year from the date issued.

Campus & Studio Policies
  • Only enrolled students are allowed in the studios.
  • Food is not allowed in the studios. Water bottles and sealed beverages are allowed.
  • BAC restrooms are for student use only. Please ask your instructor for the restroom code. DO NOT share this code with anyone or open restroom doors for members of the public. 
  • Please reach out for more information regarding service animals.
  • Use of Barnsdall Arts Center studios, equipment, materials, and supplies for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.
  • All projects and activities in the studios may be subject to the approval of the Teaching Artist and/ or Art Education Coordinator.
  • For the safety of all students and out of respect for the Teaching Artist, repeatedly misusing Center equipment/tools, not following Teaching Artist directions and/or Studio policies may result in being removed from the class and enrollment blocked in future sessions.
  • Any artwork and tools left at the end of each session will be considered abandoned and will be handled at the discretion of the Arts Center.
  • The Arts Centers are not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged artwork or personal belongings.
  • Alcoholic beverages and smoking/vaping are not permitted in BAC facilities.
  • The Barnsdall Arts Center strives to have a safe and respectful environment for all.

Health and Wellness
  • If you are feeling unwell or have flu-like symptoms, please stay home for everyone’s wellness and contact us through phone or email to report your absence.
  • We strongly recommend students wear a mask if they are not feeling well.

Standard Appearance Release

I understand that the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is dedicated to providing educational programs and arts training to young people and adults through its community arts and cultural facilities. To describe and promote its efforts, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs will produce audio, video, photographs, and printed materials. I authorize the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the participants in such programs and arts training, to record, edit, change, modify, display, present, reproduce, distribute the name, image, voice, likeness, artwork, interview, and/or performance of me and combine any or all of the same with the names, images, voices, likenesses, artwork, interviews, and performances of other participants in the above-named programs and training. All videotape, audiotape, printed materials, and photographs shall be owned by and are the property of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Indemnification

Except for the active negligence or willful misconduct of the CITY, or any of its Boards, Officers, Agents, Employees, Assigns and Successors in interest, Student undertakes and agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the CITY and any of its Boards, Officers, Agents, Employees, Assigns, and Successors in interest from and against all suits and causes of action, claims, losses, demands and expenses, including, but not limited to, attorney’s fees (both in house and outside counsel) and costs of litigation (including all actual litigation costs incurred by the CITY, including but not limited to, costs of experts and consultants), damages or liability of any nature whatsoever, for death or injury to any person, including Student employees and agents, or damage or destruction of any property of either party hereto or of third parties, arising in any manner by reason of the negligent acts, errors, omissions or willful misconduct incident to the performance of this Agreement by Student or for any reason giving six (6) months written notice to the other party.


Off Site Class Sessions


From time to time class sessions for certain courses offered by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in the Barnsdall Arts Center and Barnsdall Junior Arts Center will be held off site or in another location within the Park. It is the policy  of the City of Los Angeles that students enrolled in these courses must indemnify the City of Los Angeles, its departments, divisions, elected officials, executives, managers, employees, and agents of all liability for damages or  personal injury resulting from their enrolling and participation in the off-site activities of these courses.
