What happens when you cross a tárogató with a violin? The first member of the Glissonic instrument family, the Glissotar, is born. This unique instrument, which won both the Grand Prize and the Audience Award at the 2022 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition in Atlanta, is the invention of Dániel Váczi, developed in collaboration with industrial designer Tóbiás Terebessy. The main innovation of the Glissonic instrument family is that, instead of tone holes, a longitudinal slit runs along the instrument’s body, covered by a magnetic strip that controls pitch. This allows for long glissandos, tremolos, and microtonal sounds—much like on a violin string—making the instrument capable of producing unusual and unique effects.-----

Dániel Váczi explores the possibilities offered by this new instrument with his trio. His partners are two mainstays of the Hungarian free and experimental jazz scene: Máté Pozsár, with whom he also performs in the Decolonize Your Mind Society, and Zsolt Sárvári Kovács, with whom Dániel has been playing in various formations for twenty-five years.
