The Volunteer Wildfire Services Open Day will be hosted at the Newlands Fire Base on 02 December 2024 between 09:00 and 16:00 with free entrance for all children. This day is all about fun activities and raising awareness about wildfire and fynbos. The VWS will once again provide a fun-filled day for the whole family to learn about fire, engage in fun activities and enjoy fantastic shows which include thrilling firefighting displays, demonstrations from the SANParks Honorary Rangers K9 anti-poaching unit, and more.
Fun activities to look forward to include:
- fire truck rides
- snake displays
- face-painting
- tug-of-war
- getting up close with firefighting tools
- indoor and outdoor exhibitions
And of course the famous Open Day foam party
The Volunteer Wildfire Services is a volunteer organisation entirely dedicated to the combating of wildfires in the Table Mountain National Parks and Overberg. It has over 300 volunteers across four stations (Newlands, Stellenbosch, South Peninsula and Helderberg). As a non-profit volunteer organisation, the Volunteer Wildfire Services needs ongoing funding and relies on donations from the public and businesses to meet our annual running costs.
Open Day is one of the annual big fundraising events that help ensure that the VWS can fight wildfires safely and effectively.
*Important note about tickets and registration*
Attendance for children is FREE but parents, caregivers or teachers of the children will have to pre-register them via a Quicket ticket. This will be compulsory to allow them to partake in the various activities on the day. There is a nominal entrance fee of R35 for adults (+ a R6 platform fee).
