Dona Francisquinha is a traditional healer and teacher from the Shawadawa tribe, part of the Arara people from Juruá Valley, Acre, Brasil. From a young age, she was initiated into the profound wisdom of her culture, becoming an heir and guardian to the sacred knowledge of the Amazon rainforest. She grew up learning to identify and prepare medicinal plants used to cure various illnesses, working as a midwife, bringing life into the world in local communities. Over the years, she deepened her practice of home births, a fundamental tradition for many indigenous and riverside communities. In 2004, Dona Francisquinha was welcomed into the circle of the 13 Native Grandmothers of the World, a movement of indigenous women who preserve ancestral knowledge and promote female leadership. In 2013, she received the title of "Planetary Grandmother of Brazil" at an event in Barcelona, which helped broaden the recognition of her work. Today, at 68 years old, Dona Francisquinha continues to assist people with her profound knowledge of medicinal plants and spiritual energies, she remains a central figure in preserving the traditions of her people, keeping the ancestral wisdom alive and sharing it with the world.
She is traveling now around the world with her daughter Andreia Shawan and her son Henrique, great musician and multinstrumentalist. Their family has an ancestral lineage of shamans and healers, with a deep connection to the mysteries and knowledge of nature. This wisdom is passed down through generations, and Andreia proudly carries her family's cultural heritage.
