About this Event
Voter Empowerment 2024
Mills College at Northeastern University invites students, faculty, staff, and our local communities to attend this important panel discussion on critical issues surrounding voting rights and nonpartisan activism. Host for the evening, Professor Jaci Urbani, Associate Professor of Education, will introduce the panelists, all experts on voter suppression and strategies for protecting voter rights. Highlights from the documentary “Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook,” will be included to examine tactics of voter suppression during the 2016 election. We recommend viewing this 72-minute movie on YouTube prior to the event.
Doctoral Student Christina Rodriguez will moderate our panel discussion and Q & A with representatives from:
- American Issues Initiative
- CA Poor People’s Campaign
- CA Black Power Network
- Coleman Advocates
- The League of Women Voters Oakland
- VoteForward
There will be multiple opportunities for voter registration and activism, including tabling by TurboVote, VoteForward, Postcards to Swing States, and CA Poor People’s Campaign.
Do not miss this crucial conversation on safeguarding our democratic processes. Open to all – make a difference by being informed and involved! Contact Dr. Jaci Urbani, Associate Professor of Education, for more information: [email protected], or Magda Cooney, Director of the Center for Transformative Action, at [email protected].
Doors open at 6pm. Food and beverages will be provided.
This event is sponsored by the Education Unit, the Business and Social Sciences Unit, the Center for Transformative Action of Mills College at Northeastern University, and NU Votes.
