About this Event
Join Fisk University student leaders and Bradley Tusk — a New York City-based political strategist, venture capitalist, and philanthropist — for a timely discussion on the next frontier for the voting rights movement: mobile voting.
Right now, our democracy is broken. Restrictive voting laws make it too hard to cast a ballot. Low turnout plagues primaries and local races, and they are too often decided by the extremes. In last year’s Metro Council elections, only 1 in 5 registered voters went to the polls.
How do we fix this? Mobile voting. If we can manage our healthcare and finances on our phones, shouldn’t we be able to use them to vote? This would make voting infinitely more accessible, dramatically increase turnout, reduce extremism, and save our democracy. In the words of civil rights advocate Martin Luther King III, "Mobile voting could eliminate a very real cancer that plagues our democracy: chronically low voter turnout."
Bradley Tusk, Founder of the Mobile Voting Project, will discuss the new technology he has funded that powers secure online voting, his upcoming campaign to bring mobile voting to more Americans nationwide, and how students at Fisk and beyond can get involved and help save our democracy.
Event schedule:
4-5PM: Student-led fireside chat with Bradley Tusk
