About this Event

Location: 501 Riggs Rd. NE, Washington, DC 20011

When: Saturday, October 23rd from 10am-1pm

About This Garden: LaSalle-Backus is part of our School Garden Partners Program cohort. Through this partnership, our team has helped revitalize and transform their previously unused garden space into a living outdoor classroom and exploration space. LaSalle’s garden is one of our larger school gardens we work with, giving space for art installations, picnic area, raised beds, and just enough tree cover. Students, parents, and the school community regularly utilize this garden for after school garden club, during school lessons, and celebrations

Details: We will convene at 10am inside of the schools’ garden to do a quick introduction before splitting up into smaller working groups. Please dress in weather appropriate outdoor work clothes as well as closed toe shoes. Participants are always encouraged to bring water bottles, sunscreen, and bug spray. City Blossoms will provide all gloves and tools. Please note that City Blossoms will host this workday rain or shine, unless otherwise specified.

Parking Instructions: There is parking available along residential side streets of the school.

Safety Guidelines: At City Blossoms, we are dedicated to maintaining everyone’s safety and well-being. As a team, we have been practicing social distancing and working remotely except when necessary for maintaining our gardens. To ensure that our Workdays are safe, we use the following precautions:

  • Masks are required by all participants
  • Hand washing is available onsite and is required when participants enter the site
  • 3 feet of distance is maintained between event participants
  • Hand sanitizer and wipes are readily available
  • Participants should bring their own water bottles

Please visit our COVID-19 Safety Updates & Guidelines page to learn more.

Metro Instructions: This garden is about a 12-minute walk from the Ft. Totten Metro (green/yellow & red lines). It is also accessible by bus, via the E4,R1,R2 buses (Riggs Road & Nicholas St.)

Point of Contact: Please reach out to Darian Artis, our School Garden Partners Coordinator if you have any additional questions.
