Volunteer with Second Harvest Food Bank

Volunteer for a Tuesday morning shift (8:15-11:30 a.m.) at Second Harvest Food Bank!
This CFFC Volunteer Event is the second Tuesday morning each month. Event Host, Tony Pelham, heads up the CFFC team. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old, and those age 10–15 must volunteer with a registered adult.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a nonprofit organization that collects, stores, and distributes donated food to more than 625 feeding partners in seven Central Florida counties.
We dry sort food donations, which involves checking donated goods from supermarkets, Amazon returns, and other sources, for damage, quality, and expiration, and repack them for distribution. Second Harvest is exceptionally well-organized, and you can be sure that your volunteer efforts will be utilized well to help reduce food insecurity in the Central Florida area.
How to sign up for the event:
1. If you are a first-time volunteer at Second Harvest, you must create an account at the Second Harvest site below: https://shfbcf.volunteerhub.com/userregistrationwizard
2. Sign in to your Second Harvest account, if required.
3. Sign up at the link for the event: https://shfbcf.volunteerhub.com/vv2/lp/CFFreethought
4. Be sure you have RSVPd here in the CFFC event! That way we know to look for you.
5. If the CFFC slots are full, message Tony or comment in the event discussion for instructions—you may still be able to volunteer with us.
The Day of the Event:
- Arrive by 8:00 a.m. to allow time for us to meet up as a group. Traffic can be a little busy at this time of day, so plan accordingly!
- Meet in the lobby and find Tony Pelham. He will be wearing either a green CFFC volunteer t-shirt or an orange Second Harvest shirt. If you don't have a green CFFC volunteer shirt, he will give you one.
- If you are not going to make it, or are running late, send a message to Tony Pelham to let him know.
- After our group arrives, we’ll enter the warehouse to begin the volunteer work.
Second Harvest Attire Rules for Donation Sorting:
Closed-toe AND closed-heel shoes are REQUIRED to help out in our facility. Please wear appropriate length shorts that are not too revealing. Also, no see-through shirts, spaghetti straps, or crop tops, please.
