About this Event
Volunteer with Soup Kitchen @ Mary Mother of God
Come join us at the Mary Mother of God soup kitchen for community-building through service. The soup kitchen is located at St. Thomas of Canterbury at 4827 N Kenmore Ave. No experience necessary. Training begins at 4:45pm. Kids welcome with a parent or guardian.
Please read the following carefully, especially the sections regarding the dress code, arrival time, and age restrictions.
Location & Parking: The soup kitchen is located below St. Thomas of Canterbury church at 4823 N Kenmore. There is a parking lot across the street from the church that volunteers are welcome to use. To get to the soup kitchen from the parking lot, walk up the first set of stairs toward the church and turn right on the platform to get to the south double doors. Ring the bell and someone will let you in.
Arrival Time: First-time volunteers are required to arrive at 4:45 for training/orientation. C4 is planning to arrive at 4:45 and stay until 6:30. The soup kitchen is open to volunteers anytime between 3:30 and 7:00, and meal service is from 5:30-6:30.
Children: There is no age requirement for volunteering at the soup kitchen, but any child under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian. For youth between the ages of 12 and 18, soup kitchen policy requires one adult chaperone for every five youth.
Dress code: Per the soup kitchen, close-toed shoes are required. No tank tops, short shorts/skirts, low-cut neck lines or mid-drift shirts, leggings, tight or form-fitted pants are allowed. This is primarily for the protection of the volunteers and to reduce any potential for unwanted βattentionβ from some of the guests as many of them have mental health conditions. If volunteers arrive not dressed according to the dress code, they may be asked to wear an extra apron/shirt or asked that they return another day.
