Volunteer to supervise bicycles parked at Stanford stadium during their home football games!
About this Event
Event Description

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) provides Valet Bike Parking at each Stanford University Football game. Valet Bike Parking is one of many ways that SVBC encourages people to bike to public events. Please read more here: http://gostanford.com/index.aspx?path=football. Earn those extra credit points for school, teach your kids the importance of volunteering & helping your community, maybe it's for the food, or maybe it's your amazing way to connect with your community! Whatever your reasons, come join us ...

Volunteers at the Valet Bike Parking for this event are key members of the team. It is with your help that Valet Bike Parking is possible. From set up, to welcoming our clients & their bikes, securely storing and watching their bikes, to rolling the bikes back to their owners, to enjoying the Game, to meeting new friends, to advocating for SVBC's mission and much more! Your volunteering, supports SVBC in running successful programs and advocacy while striving to create a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling for people who live, work, or play in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

So a big thank you in advance!

Shifts

There will be 2 shifts  which will be located at 1 of 2 Bike Corrals we have operating around the Stanford Stadium during the event (see below for more information). You may indeed sign up for both shifts!

 Shift Hours:

Shift 1: 7:00-9:30 PM

Shift 2: 9:30 PM - 12:00 AM

What to Expect: Enjoy some fun & laughter with your bicycling family! Volunteering involves event set up or set down, registration of our client's bikes, storing and securing these bicycles, keeping a watchful eye during the event, happily returning them to the attendees after the event and leaving ample time for you to talk to the members of the community. A meal will be provided for volunteers, and FREE entry to watch part of the game is part of the volunteering rewards (as long as there is another volunteer to guard the bikes). What a sweet way to volunteer really!

You may reserve volunteer spots by registering one ticket per volunteer (e.g. if you would like to bring 3 volunteers from your group, you need to register their name (or yours as a place holder) for each ticket). Please try to be as accurate as possible. If you do not end up needing all of the tickets you originally registered for, please notify the Community Programs Coordinator at [email protected] as soon as possible. If you sign up for a shift, please let us know if things change as early asap. This helps us to try and fill the spot well before the event.

Qualifications

Volunteers should be able to verbally or non-verbally greet bicyclists. Some volunteers will need to be able to comfortably move tables and chairs (can be done in pairs). Volunteers aged 13 to 18, who are not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian are required to bring a signed waiver form (below) to the Event Lead the day of the event. Volunteers under the age of 13 must also be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to volunteer.

Parents/Guardians, if your child is coming with you to volunteer, the expectation is that they can be independent and support the bike parking program without your need to supervise them the entire time. You will be working together but must be able to leave them unattended at times. If you are unsure if this is an age appropriate volunteer activity for your child, please do not hesitate to contact the Community Programs Coordinator.

More Information

Once registered, volunteers will be contacted using the contact information provided during your registration. More detailed information will be provided closer to the event date, so please stay tuned! If you have any questions, please email our Community Programs Coordinator, Eleni Jacobson, at [email protected].

To arrive to Stadium gates 2 and 5, please ride your bike from Caltrain, or take any VTA bus that arrives near Stanford. If you really must drive and park, please let us know by emailing [email protected] and we will try to arrange an on-site parking permit for you.
