Volunteer Open House

Volunteering with Friends of the National Arboretum is a rewarding experience. Come to our Volunteer Open House in the Washington Youth Garden at the US National Arboretum on April 4 from 10 AM to 1 PM to learn all about it! Get a tour of the Washington Youth Garden, learn about the tools volunteers use and help get the garden ready for spring!

All interested volunteers will also need to complete our volunteer interest form. Must be 16 to volunteer.

Volunteering in the Washington Youth Garden:

You don't need to have experience, but you must be willing to make friends with the soil and the bugs! Our volunteers work on various organic gardening tasks, such as weeding, planting, pruning, and mulching.

Volunteering with FONA's Community Events:

Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting our 5Ks, festivals, Garden Fair, and concert series. There are a variety of roles that change by event, including helping with events at the Washington Youth Garden.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS: In the case of heavy rain or storms, the event will be postponed to the following Saturday, April 11 from 10 AM to 1 PM. If FONA cancels the event due to unsafe conditions or threat of inclement weather, you will be notified by email at least 2 hours before the event. So please check before you head out.

WHAT TO BRING:

• Sunscreen / Sun Protection
• Comfortable footwear
• Water and snacks

LOCATION: Meet at the (click to navigate via Google Maps). Enter the Arboretum through either the New York Avenue (3501 New York Ave NE) or R Street entrances (2400 R Street NE). Parking is available in the small lot next to the Washington Youth Garden or at the (click to navigate via Google Maps) located a 5 minute walk from the garden.
